Welcome to Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

At Archbishop Courtenay Primary School, we believe in caring for your children as if they were our own. Our approach is rooted in nurturing each child with kindness and compassion, creating a safe and loving environment where they feel valued and supported. We are dedicated to providing the essential tools and experiences that enable every pupil to thrive and flourish as they embark on their exciting educational journey.

We recognise that families are the first and most important educators in a child’s life. That’s why we are committed to working closely with you, valuing your unique insights and knowledge about your child. Together, we can create a strong partnership that supports your child’s development, well-being, and love of learning from the very start.

We firmly believe that the first year at school is the most important. We want your child to be curious about the world around them, to make connections, to form positive relationships and to flourish as an individual. We encourage our children to live out our Christian values of Compassion, Aspiration, Friendship, Resilience and Respect so that they may reach their full potential and be able to contribute and thrive in our modern and increasingly complex world. The skills, experiences and learning that your child will enjoy with us, in their first year at school, will last them a lifetime.

We offer a child-centred curriculum; enabling environments are created and adapted in order to meet your child’s needs and to match their interests. Children learn through playing and exploring, so that they develop resilience, independence and passion as learners. Our experienced team of adults supports the development and learning of your child, making links between adult-led and child-initiated activities. Outdoor and indoor environments provide fluid opportunities for learning and important areas of development. Reading sits at the heart of our curriculum; we wish to develop a lifelong love of reading that will enable their future success.

High quality care and provision are at the centre of our ethos and our experienced team pride themselves on strong, robust relationships with our parents. Your voice, as an expert in your child, is a core driver in our work together. We offer many ways to communicate and to work with us; our school website, our school Facebook page, school communications texting service and a dedicated class email address. We use Tapestry as our online learning journey, which allows parents a window into your child’s day and to facilitate, make comments and celebrate achievements and triumphs together. Our parent school communications are further enhanced by the role of our Pastoral and Wellbeing Manager, Tracy Gooding (tgooding@abc.aquilatrust.co.uk or 07715 216708).
